Open up the game more. Ditch offsides. If someone wants to cherry pick, let them. They would either hurt their team defensively or the other team keeps one man back. It's a silly pointless rule that does nothing but kill the flow of the game while providing nothing in the way of either safety or entertainment.

I'd like to get rid of the offside reviews, or perhaps penalize teams for lost reviews

That's what the rules are now? Lose a goalie interference challenge means losing time out still; but losing an offsides challenge means you get a delay of game penalty... unless they changed it back after last year?

I've said this for years. "We need more scoring but we're afraid of more scoring."
I remember when the two line pass elimination was going to ruin the game too.

It is a penalty for losing an off side challenge.

Without offside the attacking team can also maintain possession by regrouping a far back as they want. Center ice. Blue line. Back to the sieve. Out could have a negative or positive effect on goals. I would never get rid of offside

I don't think this would help offence. This would just lead to defence staying back, and create a more defensive "trap" style game.

Similar to how people thought the big ice surface would create more offence because there was more space, but in reality it just made the defence play way more conservative and made it a slower, more boring game.

I agree clean up the offsides rule. Take out the judgement parts. You can't be in the zone with or without control of the puck. I also believe the line should extend upwards. It shouldn't matter if your skate is on the ice to be considered off sides.

The other rule is goalie interference. Does anyone know what it is? If so let me know because I've seen one get called one way and another not called at all. It's a complete joke. Those doing reviews in the league office are not consistent when allowing/disallowing goals. It seems offensive players who get a bump take it as a free ticket to get into the goalie. If you don't make an effort not to hit the goalie the goal should be disallowed. If you are in the crease and catch a piece of the goalie, even his stick a goal should be disallowed.

Lost challenges should be a penalty not a lost timeout. That way these super slow mo offsides plays won't be challenged nearly as much. Actually eliminate the slow mo and if you can't determine it by looking at it in real time then its on side

1. Don't make pucks shot over the glass by a player in his defensive zone an automatic Delay of Game penalty but instead give the referee discretion on whether to call it. For example, if it was an honest clearing attempt by a guy who has an offensive player on him then don't call it. Likewise, if it is obvious that the defender did it just to stop play then it would be a penalty.

2. The issue with offsides is difficult. I think that close zone entries should always be reviewed by an off-ice official concurrently with play and if it can be determined to be obviously offsides within 30 seconds and the puck hasn't been cleared yet then the play should be whistled. Likewise if a goal is scored in that time and it was obviously offsides it shouldn't count. However, if it is "too close to call" by the off-ice official within 30 seconds then it is just considered on-side. The offensive team should be given "the benefit of the doubt" in this situation.

3. When players fight they should be required to take their helmets off to keep it fair.

You can get rid of the trapezoid now that Marty has retired. What a bullpoop rule that was. I mean is.

Also, if you can't tell if a guy is off sides the first two times you roll the tape then the (frank)er is on sides. And if it has zero direct affect on the play move along. Somebody get a pubic hair ahead of the play and goals are disallowed.

Get rid of the no icing during a penalty rule. Would increase scoring and make the powerplay more fun

for the ppl recommending that offside should not matter if the skate is on the ice i have two questions
1) why do you think its better
2) do you think its easier for a linesman to determine the offsidedness of a skate aling the ice or somewhere in mid air?

and to the ppl recommending a penalty for a failed offside challenge... smh

this is already a rule

1. Go back to reseeding after every round. Highest available seed vs lowest available seed.

2. If a game is a 1 goal differential, a power play for the trailing team should carry its full two minutes at the end of the game as if it would between the first and second, or second and third periods.

I don't see why a team down by a goal who gets a power play with less than two minutes left should not be able to play out the entire advantage.

3. Any player who starts a fight after a clean hit should be assessed an extra penalty for delay of game.

In no particular order - ways to improve hockey

1. Remove video replay completely
2. Remove trapezoid
3. Change playoff format to 1 vs. 8, OR 1 vs. 16
4. Re-seed playoff teams each round
5. Eliminate shootout - 10 minutes 5 on 5 - no score, game ends in a tie
6. Instigator penalty
7. Power plays always full 2 minutes - regardless of any goals scored
8. Remove on ice commentators between the benches
9. Get rid of Pierre McGuire
10. Fold the Rangers franchise - they're never winning a cup again

1) Remove the trapezoid entirely. It serves no purpose.

2) Change the punishment for DoG - Puck Over Glass to just that that team can't change, just like an icing. 99% of the time this occurs, it's either a total accident or they were trying to ice it in the first place. If somebody is trying to launch it into the crowd, it's nearly always obvious - that can still be a minor penalty, just like it used to be.

3) With the exception of did the puck cross the goal line (either entirely or as a buzzer beater), no video review can be done in slow motion. The officials can't look at things slowed down, so why should the review system be able to? If you can't tell if it's offside or GI in full motion, then it isn't offside or GI.

4) Since 1-16 playoffs will never happen, go back to division winners are 1/2 and then it's the next best 6 in order. Divisional playoffs are stupid, repetitive, and frequently ensure the two best teams play before the conference final.

5) Adopt the IIHF crease violation rule. By no means am I saying goalies should be fair game outside of the crease, but if you're out there and get incidental contacted, sucks to be you. For skaters, don't want to have goals nullified? Don't skate through the crease.

6) If your challenge is successful, you get another one. No limit. Arbitrarily limiting challenges only proves that they don't actually care about getting the call right.

7) In the regular season, overtime is 10 minutes instead of 5. Shootouts are dumb. Anything that limits how many happen (other than going back to ties) is good.

8) In the playoffs, go down to 4 on 4 starting in double (maybe triple) overtime, except in elimination games. I love overtime. It's awesome. But not when it goes on for multiple hours when the teams still have another game to play. Fully aware that of everything I'm saying, this is the least likely to ever gain any real traction with literally anybody.

9) 3 points for a regulation win. When games are worth different numbers of points, it makes playoff chases more boring than they ought to be and third periods more boring than they ought to be.

10) No team can pick in the top three more than twice every three years. The Edmonton Oilers rule.

I’d like to see two rules changed.

1 either eliminate the glove pass rule or make it so the non offending team has two steamboats to play it or it’s live. Make the high stick rule the same.

2 make icings only from behind a teams own blue line.

I believe these rule changes would speed the game up and keep the flow going.

Your rule change on icing. That is very interesting. That would have a major impact on the game. Completely changes the speed of the neutral zone, allows more entries, allows more cherry picking. That would be interesting to see n exhibition.

Entertaining yes and no. Not truly hockey the way it was intended. Cant tell you how many of the 3 on 3’s that we’re also boring because nobody wants to give up the puck so they just skate around, play keep away and never shoot
